The United Nations Development Programme AltFinLab and Exponential Science introduced the UNDP Government Blockchain Academy at the Blockchain Impact Forum in Copenhagen, held on the 4th of November. The programme is designed to equip government teams with the knowledge and practical tools needed to apply blockchain technology for public benefit.
Presented by Burcu Mavis from UNDP AltFinLab and Aaron Sanchez from Exponential Science, the announcement marked a significant step in supporting governments that want to understand and adopt frontier technologies.
What the Academy Provides
The Academy offers a structured learning pathway that combines education with practical solution design. Government teams can access expert-led modules covering blockchain fundamentals, applications for public challenges, technical learning, and implementation support. The programme also focuses on five key areas where blockchain can create a measurable impact: digital finance, transparent governance, supply chain, climate resilience, and digital identity.
The Blockchain Impact Forum, organised by UNDP AltFinLab and the Blockchain for Good Alliance, brought together global leaders from the public and private sectors. Across two days, participants explored how blockchain can support the Sustainable Development Goals and advance effective digital transformation. The Academy’s introduction aligned with the event’s wider aim to move blockchain from concept to public sector implementation.

For Exponential Science, the Academy reflects a commitment to helping governments use emerging technology responsibly and effectively. By supporting curriculum development, strategic guidance, and real-world application, the organisation is contributing to an international effort to strengthen digital capability in the public sector.
The UNDP Government Blockchain Academy is now open for government teams and partners interested in joining. As it develops, it aims to become a central resource for public institutions seeking practical knowledge, project support, and collaboration opportunities in the area of blockchain for public good.
