The Exponential Science team has attended the Nordic Blockchain Conference 2025, held in Stockholm on June 18–19, 2025. The event comes at a pivotal moment for the region, with the Nordics solidifying their position in the global crypto and blockchain landscape.

One recent example is Sweden’s approval of its first multi-asset crypto exchange-traded product (ETP) on Nasdaq, a milestone signaling growing institutional interest and regulatory clarity in the country. This development set a fitting backdrop for this year’s event, where discussions spanned across decentralized science (DeSci), Web3 scalability, European crypto regulation, and blockchain’s role in driving ESG impact.

From Web3 to ESG

The conference emphasized blockchain’s expanding utility beyond finance. One of the major themes was its role in sustainability and ESG compliance. Several sessions addressed how decentralized systems could support Europe’s ESG targets and what standards are still lacking.

One of the key sessions, titled ‘Web3 & ESG: Threat or Opportunity for a Sustainable Future in the EU/EEA’, brought together ESG specialists, sustainability rating firms, and regulatory experts. Juan Ignacio Ibañez, General Secretary of the MiCA Crypto Alliance, joined this session to outline how Europe’s Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulation could help standardize sustainability reporting in the crypto space:

‘You can maintain a shared database for the entire world without anybody being in charge, and that can allow the introduction of data points about the many attributes of environmental assets, like carbon offsets, in a decentralized manner.’

Regulation and trust in the European crypto space

On Thursday, Ibañez also joined a panel titled ‘Building Compliance in a Trustless World.’ The discussion focused on how startups, projects and businesses can navigate increasingly complex compliance frameworks in the EU, particularly as MiCA rolls out across member states. Participants explored how regulation enables rather than hinders innovation, provided guidance, and solutions are available.

Exponential Science and its initiatives, including the MiCA Crypto Alliance, are actively engaged in industry events and continue to contribute to key conversations around policy, ESG, and sustainable innovation. By participating in events such as the Nordic Blockchain Conference, the foundation helps shape the future of responsible blockchain development across Europe, while continuing to bridge the gap between academia and the crypto industry.
