The Central Bank of Uruguay (BCU) will host the 11th edition of the P2P Financial Systems Workshop (P2PFISY 2025) on the 18th-19th of September 2025 in Montevideo, Uruguay. This landmark event backed by the Exponential Science Foundation is set to take place at the esteemed premises of BCU and in close collaboration with the Faculty of Economic Sciences and Administration (FCEA) of the University of the Republic.
Uruguay's selection as the host nation reflects the country's pivotal role in advancing financial innovation across Latin America. With its robust institutional framework and progressive regulatory approach, Uruguay provides an ideal environment for exploring decentralised technologies and inclusive finance solutions. The partnership with the BCU and FCEA ensures that the workshop will address regional priorities whilst enhancing local expertise and elevating perspectives from emerging economies in global discussions on peer-to-peer finance.
Under the theme 'Decentralisation, Inclusion and the Future of Money', P2PFISY 2025 will convene leading economists, central bankers, technologists, and academics from Latin America and beyond. The workshop will explore the critical intersection of peer-to-peer finance, policy innovation, academia, and digital public infrastructure.
The workshop features a call for papers, inviting submissions from academics, policymakers, central banks, industry experts, and both public and private institutions. Whether policy-oriented, theoretical, or empirical, contributions should focus on the evolving role of emerging technologies within financial systems. Selected papers will be presented at the event either in-person or online.
The programme will feature an impressive array of sessions designed to foster meaningful dialogue and knowledge exchange: Keynote Presentations, Panel Discussions, Academic Sessions and Research Presentations, all aimed at highlighting the role of Uruguay in the emerging financial landscape.
Building on a Legacy of Excellence
P2PFISY has established itself as a premier forum for financial innovation over more than a decade. Since its inaugural event at the Deutsche Bundesbank 11 years ago, the workshop has been hosted by some of the world's most prestigious financial institutions, including the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland, the Bank of Italy, and the European Central Bank. Most recently, the 10th anniversary workshop took place in Dubai in October 2024, hosted in collaboration with the Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (VARA).
