Role Overview
We are seeking a strategic and operationally-focused Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to oversee and scale all financial aspects across our nonprofit foundation activities, internal product development, grant-making processes, treasury management, and investment fund operations. The CFO will play a pivotal role in ensuring financial sustainability, optimizing fund allocation, managing our derivatives and treasury portfolio, maintaining regulatory compliance, and providing strategic financial leadership as we expand our impact in Web3, AI, and deep tech.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Strategy & Planning
- Develop and execute a comprehensive financial strategy aligned with the foundation's mission, long-term objectives, and investment goals.
- Create, oversee, and manage financial forecasting, budgeting, and modeling across operational, grant-making, internal product development, and investment activities.
Investment & Treasury Management
- Direct capital allocation, investment cash flows, hedging, yield, and overall treasury strategy.
- Model and manage financial risks and opportunities associated with individual deals and overall portfolio dynamics.
- Monitor and manage the performance of our treasury and yield strategies, ensuring alignment with risk tolerance and strategic objectives.
Financial Operations & Governance
- Establish and maintain robust financial systems, controls, and reporting frameworks.
- Ensure accurate and compliant financial accounting and reporting across all foundation and investment activities, adhering to relevant accounting standards, charitable laws, and investment regulations.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Coordinate with legal counsel and external advisors to monitor and fulfill regulatory, legal, and tax obligations.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate financial, investment, and operational risks proactively.
Grant-making and Internal Product Development Oversight
- Oversee financial aspects of the foundation’s grant-making processes, ensuring efficient resource allocation, transparency, and accountability.
- Provide financial insights and strategic guidance to internal product development initiatives, ensuring fiscal discipline and alignment with foundation goals.
Stakeholder Communication & Reporting
- Prepare clear, accurate, and timely financial reports for the board, founders, donors, partners, regulators, and other stakeholders.
- Foster transparency, accountability, and trust through proactive stakeholder communication and robust reporting practices.
Team Leadership & External Coordination
- Manage and mentor the internal finance team and external service providers (e.g., accountants, auditors, fund administrators).
- Coordinate financial reporting and value-creation metrics with portfolio companies and internal teams.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 8 years' experience in senior financial leadership roles within venture capital, private equity, nonprofit foundations, or technology-focused organizations.
- Strong expertise in financial operations, treasury management, and yield strategy management.
- Deep understanding of fund structures, LP/GP dynamics, investment tracking, and compliance within investment-focused entities.
- Proven ability to develop and execute strategic financial plans aligned with organizational mission and growth targets.
- Excellent leadership, analytical, and communication skills with a track record of bridging operational execution and strategic financial oversight.
- Professional credentials such as CPA, CFA, or MBA strongly preferred.
